In loving memory of Dorothy Elizabeth Davis, affectionately known as “Dot", "Mom Dot", "Aunt Dot", and "Ms. Dot”, who peacefully passed away on November 3, 2023, in Wilmington, DE at the age of 89. She was born on August 29, 1934 in Smyrna, DE, to the late Joseph and Ethel Henry.
In her early years, Dorothy attended the Old Ebenezer Colored School in Townsend, DE and later attended high school in Philadelphia, Pa, when she went to stay with her Aunt Carrie Briscoe. Upon moving back to Clayton, DE she meet and married the late William Davis Sr., and together they birthed seven children, William, Dorothy, Barbara, Samuel, Darlene, Lorne and Purnell. Dorothy later united in holy matrimony to Thomas Bowers, with whom she did life until the time of his passing.
Dorothy loved the Lord. Throughout her time here she was a member of Ezion Fair and Ebenezer Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health issues prevented her from attending. At the time of her passing, Dorothy was an honorary member of Rebuilders Faith Ministries. She had no problem calling for someone to come serve her communion or to replenish her anointing oil.
Dorothy was a nosey somebody. It's believed that is why she enjoyed watching the news every day. It was never uncommon to be in a conversation with her and there would be something causing her to respond “I hope my never!”. She also liked watching her favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles. She had a Big heart of gold. After her love for God, was the love she had for her family and the love she knew they had for her. She was everyone’s favorite. She loved talking with family members whether in person or by phone. When you were talking with her, she was probably eating her favorite snack, pretzels, or a spoon of her favorite vanilla ice cream, if it was right before she was getting ready for bed. And, best believe, after telling you she loved you and you responding back, she would always have the last word with "I LOVE YOU MORE!"
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sr. and Ethel Henry, husband, Thomas Bowers: son, William Davis, Jr.; grandsons, Lavelle Pennewell, Lorne Davis Jr., Dwayne Jr. and Creed Bateman; granddaughter, Tangela Davis; great grandson, Zion Davis, and siblings, Joseph, Carl, Carrie, Ardella, Ida, Clara Viola, Gladys, Lovina, Ina Olivia, Samuel, Elmer Leroy and Lydia, and sister-in-law Gertrude.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her children Barbara Wilmer, Darlene Bateman, Samuel Davis Sr., Lorne Davis Sr., and Purnell Davis; grandchildren, Lamont Davis (whom she helped raise), Anita Smith, Samuel Davis Jr., Keyshia Anderson (Richard), Teneka Robinson, Lashawnda Bateman, Bradford Wilmer Jr. (Love), Shameka Thomas, Angel Thomas, Ayrria Hicks, and Shania Deshiell; and a multitude of great and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Issac Henry (Linda), Pearl Allen, and two devoted sister/friends, Ilene and Regina; in-laws Mary Bess, Hellen Davis, Hiltson Davis, Louise Henry; and a devoted son-in-law Bradford Davis, Sr.
