Life Story

Katrina Celier (Richards) Deshields affectionally known as “Cookie, Trina, or Katarina” was born November 28, 1954, in Dover, Delaware to the late Willard Foster Richards Sr. and the late Sarah (Trader) Richards. Cookie departed this life peacefully at home on January 7, 2023.

Katrina joined Mt. Olive Pentecostal Church, in Smyrna, Delaware under the leadership of Bishop Grace Ruth Batten where she was a faithful member and dedicated her life to Christ. Numerous members of the church shared that it was a joy and blessing to hear Sister Katrina pray and share her testimonies to the Glory and honor of God.

Cookie loved gathering with family and friends for food and laughs.  She also enjoyed giving gifts, traveling, camping, shopping at the Goodwill, going for rides in the “Blue Muscle,” twisting our shirts with “cockles” and of course eating crabs.

In June 2002, Katrina met the love of her life, Marvin at Silver Lake Park in Dover and they have been inseparable ever since. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 26, 2013, in Dover.

After retirement, she worked in the cafeteria at Dover High School, where she really enjoyed talking with the students.

Katrina is preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memories and love, always, to her husband, Marvin Deshields; children, Kenya McKnight (Shafton), Monique Richards, and JJ Richards; Marvin’s children, whom she loved and cared for as her own: two sons, Daevon Deshields (Katelyn), and Vaeshon Deshields (Bri); and one daughter, Marlaina Deshields; three sisters, Joyce Ritchie, Myrtle “Teddy” Richards, and Sarah Loper of Dover; one brother, Willard “Son” Richards of Smyrna; two grandchildren, Lascelle Gordon of Bowie, Maryland, and Killian Deshields of Middletown, Delaware; a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, church family and friends.
