Deborah Lynn Young, known as “Debbie”, was born April 16th, 1959. She was the eldest child of the late Hansome “Buddy” Young Jr. and the late Madeline Young.
Early on in life, Debbie attended Siloam A.M.E Church, where she participated in the choir. “How Great Thou Art” was often requested by her family for her to sing as a young child. She accepted Christ as her personal savior. She graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 1977.
In 1994, Debbie began working for Kent-Sussex Industries. She thrived here because supporting and caring for others was one of her best qualities. She would always affectionately refer to her team as “my guys”. She continued working for KSI for 26 years until her retirement in 2020.
Debbie loved reading books for relaxation. She also enjoyed watching sitcoms, true crime, and games shows. Having loved word puzzles, it’s no surprise her favorite show was Wheel of Fortune. She was known for making some of the most delicious potato salad.
The greatest joy in Debbie’s life was being a mother to her three children, Dwight, Melvin (Chubby) and Marcus. She would share with anyone she met about how proud she was of her children and the men they have become. She leaves with them a lifetime of wisdom, memories and most importantly love. Debbie was one of a kind and will be truly missed.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents Hansome and Madeline Young, brother Leon Hazzard Sr. and niece Lisa Hazzard.
Deborah leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Dwight (Harrington, DE), Melvin and Marcus (Milford, DE); grandchildren, Ashley & Jordin Young (Milford, DE); Sisters, JoAnne Daniyan (Elwood, NJ), Vicky Hazzard-Matthews (Troy) (Slaughter Neck, DE), Eunice Hazzard (Slaughter Neck, DE), Sabra Mosely (Gentris) (Talladega, AL), Barbarette Young-Henry (Parish) (Newark, DE); Brothers, Timothy Hazzard (Slaughter Neck, DE), Hanson “Buddy” Young III (Slaughter Neck, DE); Uncles, Ferris Young (Mary) (Slaughter Neck, DE), Maurice Young (Slaughter Neck, DE); Aunts, Barbara Travis (Slaughter Neck, DE), Kathleen Donaldson (Milford, DE); Two special nieces; Stacey Stevens (Dover, DE) and Michelle Hazzard (Slaughter Neck, DE); Longtime friends; Melvin Smith (Harrington, DE), Charlotte Benson (Harry) (Frederica, DE), Johnese Spencer (Curtis) (Milford, DE) and Krista “Krissy” Miller (Wilmington, DE); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
